Eager parents and staff attended the special Board of Education meeting last night, in the hopes that the sitting board members would put an end to months of speculation and torment. It was not to be.

What started as a good faith gathering of parents, staff and board members dissolved into that familiar frustration when the parents and staff realized that once again, the Board has played them for the fool.

2 candidates remained as of last night. 2 educated, intelligent, articulate, dedicated, interested persons, who answered 12 multi-component questions with grace and confidence, acknowledging the parents and staff present. Both stated similar issues, both have experience in the challenges that Winslow faces. But apparently neither was qualified - that should come as a complete shock to both, since one is currently an assistant Superintendent, and the other a Superintendent of the Pleasantville school district. But, parents and staff, there you go thinking again.

If you read between the lines, you might figure out that Parker's cronies wanted anyone but Dan Swirsky to ascend to the Superintendent's position. You might also figure that those without political affiliation wanted to stall any action that was politically biased.

However, we cannot ignore that after major public outcry and two searches, we are back at square one.

CLEARLY, it is time for a changing of the guard - clearly, this is nothing but a game for the Board - and they have wasted YOUR precious time and money. Effective change can not be implemented overnight - each delay costs money and each delay means it's that much longer before the hallways are safe, before staff morale is boosted, before a meaningful curriculum is implemented.

LET YOUR VOTE BE YOUR VOICE FOR YOUR CHILDREN! Meet the candidates Thursday - 7pm at school #6.
